For people who find it difficult to stand due to age or medical condition, it can be very hard to get out of a traditional chair, such as a recliner or easy chair. Often it is necessary for individuals in this situation to rely upon someone to lend them a hand, as simply standing up is not possible without assistance. For these individuals and anyone who suffers from mobility related health problems, there are several medical devices that can make standing much easier.

One of the most common types of home lifting aids is the lift chair. A lift chair looks very similar to a regular recliner, however, it is not only a comfortable place to sleep or watch TV. Instead, lift chairs also aid in standing and sitting, making it possible for most people to stand safely without any help or assistance from others.

Lift chairs are controlled electronically and the base of the chair is fitted with a very powerful lifting system. When activated, the lifting system raises the chair into the air, so the occupant can exit on their feet. These chairs are also used to allow an individual to sit in a controlled manner, while offering the same features, such as extending footrest and lowering backrest, that traditional recliners offer. However, unlike traditional recliners, the footrest and backrest are controlled electronically, making it a much more comfortable and easier to use sitting recliner.

While the lift chair is probably the most popular and common home lifting aid, there are many other popular aids that make daily living much easier and safer. Bath lifts and toilet seat lifts are very popular, with both being used in the bathroom to increase safety.

Bath lifts typically use strong suction cups to safely secure to a bathtub, so they can be installed easily and removed easily, with no modification to the bathtub. Toilet seat lifts are used to help make it easier and safer to use a commode and can also usually be installed without modifying the toilet. Most people who use a lift chair, will also prefer to use a bath lift and toilet seat lift.

There are also lifting aids available to make using the stairs easier and safer. This is a very important task, because the stairs are one of the most dangerous places in the home, it is very important to prevent falls on the stairs. Stair lifts are often used to increase stair safety and for those who use wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts are often used.

There are many available home lifting aids that can make using various areas of the home safer and also easier to use alone. Often, a great deal of independence is restored by using a lifting aid like a lift chair or stair lift.
